Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. (NYSE: MMI : 38.23, 13.76) shares jumped 60.03 percent to $39.16 per share on Monday after Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG : 551.34, -12.42) said it has agreed to acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. Shares of Google were trading lower by 2.60 percent to $549.09.

Ralcorp Holdings Inc. (NYSE: RAH : 83, 4.03) again turned down ConAgra Foods Inc. (NYSE: CAG : 23.51, 0.32) and its latest takeover offer of $94 per share in cash. The sweetened offer values Ralcorp at about $5.2 billion. RAH last traded at $79.02, up 1.07 percent, and CAG last traded at $23.19, up 0.78 percent, on Friday.

Estee Lauder Companies Inc. (NYSE: EL : 93.68, -7.18) today reported fourth quarter FY 2011 net sales of $8.81 billion, up 13 percent compared with $7.80 billion reported in the prior year. The company reported net earnings for the year of $700.8 million, compared with $478.3 million last year. EL is trading lower by 2.83 percent to $98 in pre-market trading on Monday.

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC : 7.68, 0.47) said on Monday that it is exiting the international credit card business and that it is selling its Canadian cards business to Toronto-Dominion Bank (NYSE: TD). TD Bank Group has agreed to buy Bank of America's $8.6 billion Canadian credit card portfolio as well as certain other assets and liabilities. BAC is trading higher by 3.20 percent to $7.42 in pre-market trading.

Asian markets closed higher today. Hong Kong's Hang Seng closed higher by 640.09 points, or 3.26 percent, to 20,260.10, Singapore's Straits Times closed up by 23.81 points, or 0.84 percent, to 2,874.40. China's Shanghai Composite Index closed higher by 33.60 points, or 1.30 percent, to 2,626.77, and Japan's Nikkei 225 closed up by 122.69 points, or 1.37 percent, to 9,086.41. India's BSE 30 remained closed today.

The European indexes were trading higher mid-day Monday. Britain's FTSE 100 was trading higher at 5,341.43, adding 21.40 points, or 0.40 percent; Germany's DAX was trading at 6,042.04, up 44.30 points, or 0.74 percent; and France's CAC40 was trading higher by 4.01 points, or 0.12 percent, to 3,217.89.

Gold prices decline for third straight day as shares rally
Ahead of the opening bell, crude oil was lower by 0.36 points, or 0.42 percent, to $85.02 per barrel. Gold stood at 1,735.50, down 4.90 points, or 0.28 percent, on Monday.

In the currency market, the euro was trading higher by 0.34 percent to 1.4299 against the U.S. dollar. The dollar was trading higher at ¥76.7950, up 0.01 percent, against JPY. The British pound is also trading higher by 0.20 percent to $1.6315 against the dollar on Monday. On Friday, Wall Street closed higher. The Dow Jones industrial average closed higher by 125.71 points, or 1.13 percent, to settle at 11,269.02, over Thursday's close.
